Tamron plans to release 5 new lenses a year

Tamron released their finiancials.  Their sales were lower, however, their profits were higher.

Tamron expects to continue to focus on mirrorless lenses for at least 2020, and plans to release 5 new lenses a year.  The lenses released last year for the E mount were well recieved.

Some other commentary;

  • The interchangeable lens market also shrank due to the camera market. However, even in mirrorless cameras, full-size cameras with high image quality and high unit prices are performing well, and full-size cameras were down only 6% YoY. The market for compact models also continued to shrink, dropping 18% year-on-year.
  • In such a market environment, the Company's lens-related business posted lower sales but profits increased, and the Company's mainstay photography-related and special equipment-related businesses achieved higher sales and profits.
  • In the 2019 launch model, following the A036 for mirrorless released in 2018, the production of A046 for mirrorless also exceeded the Company's forecast from the beginning of the release and production could not catch up, and the situation where back orders continue to be held Was.
  • In the spring, following the standard zoom A036 and the wide-angle zoom A046, the telephoto zoom lens A056, which achieves brightness and image quality with an F value of 2.8, will be released. Now, large ternary lenses, which are very popular with camera fans and consist of wide-angle, standard, and telephoto, will be available as a series of compact, lightweight, and integrated products that will further increase sales. I will try.

It will be interesting to see if Tamron expands their lineup to the L, RF and Z mounts.
