Nikon Patent Application: Wide angle APS-C mirrorless lens

We have discovered that Nikon has applied for a patent on a super wide angle lens APS-C lens for the Z mount.

Nikon patents are a little hard to decipher, however, the image height is described as being "Y" of 7.97mm, which is greater than the required image height of APS-C sensor of 7.8mm (half the height of the sensor).  It's our belief that this is for an APS-C sized sensor.  Especially when considering the focal lengths starting at 9mm (13.5mm in full frame equivalence)

There are a variety of different embodiments;

  • 9mm-30mm F3.5-6.0
  • 9mm-30mm F2.0-4.5
  • 9mm-30mm F2.8-5.6
