More rumors on the EOS High MegaPixel R and R6
Some more rumors have surfaced on the high megapixel EOS R (R5s) and the EOS R6. The R5s is what we are calling this camera because it really looks like Canon is mirroring their DSLR lineup with the R6 and R5 camera bodies. The R5s is apparently in limited real-life testing and is expected to be around "double" that of the R5. This would put it around 80 to 90MP in terms of resolution. This would end up being a high-performance camera, capable of shooting up to 10-11 fps. Small 64GB cards need not apply. While it will have video features, it will not have a video focus, and be primarily for stills shooters. Expect some form of 4K video, but nothing too serious. We fully expect it to have the same ergonomics as the R5.
The specifications for the R6 have been updated to clearly show that this is a lower model on the hierarchy. The items in bold are new.
- 20mp full-frame CMOS sensor
- 12fps mechanical and 20fps electronic.
- 4K @ 60p
- FullHD @ 120p
- Dual card slots
- No top-down screen
- Lower resolution EVF than the EOS R5
- Build quality not as good as the EOS R5
- New battery (Not sure if it’s the same as the EOS R5)
- June 2020 launch (We think a May announcement)
More to come.
